About Wasmund's Barrel Aging Kit

"The Wasmund's Barrel Aging Kit provides a uniquely creative opportunity for the casual or professional mixologist, the creative aspiring chef, or the true whisky connoisseur," says Rick Wasmund, the founder and master distiller at Copper Fox Distillery. Situated along the banks of the Thronton River in Sperryville, Virginia, Copper Fox Distillery was founded in 2000 after Wasmund returned to the United States following an internship at one of Scotland's most prestigious distilleries.

The Wasmund's Barrel Aging Kit includes one bottle of Wasmund's Single Malt Spirit, one bottle of Wasmund's Rye Spirit and a two-liter, charred American oak barrel.

Wasmund's Single Malt Spirit is made exclusively from Thoroughbred barley developed and grown for the Copper Fox Distillery. "The foundation of our product is Thoroughbred barley from our own private grower and used by no other distillery," says Wasmund. Once the barley has been malted at the distillery's malthouse (the distillery is one of only a handful to still malt its own barley), the grains are dried over an apple and cherry wood smoke flame. "This is another first for single malt whisky that adds to the cascade of finishing flavors,"Wasmund notes. Then, the grains are mashed and fermented before being distilled through a double copper-pot still (the still only produces one barrel of whisky at a time). Following distillation, the spirit is immediately bottled at cask strength.

Wasmund's Rye Spirit is made from a mash of 67% Virginia rye and 33% Thoroughbred barley. Much like the barley used to make Wasmund's Single Malt, the barley used to craft Wasmund's Rye is dried over an apple and cherry wood smoke flame. Once the grains have been milled and mashed, they are fermented using a proprietary strain of yeast and then twice distilled through a single-batch copper pot still. Following distillation, the spirit is bottled immediately at cask strength.

"We invite you to replicate the aging process we use in crafting our aged whiskies (link to here:https://www.caskers.com/wasmunds-single-malt-and-copper-fox-rye-whisky/) at home," says Wasmund, "by aging these spirits yourself in our charred, American oak casks."

About Copper Fox

"The foundation of our product is Thoroughbred barley from our own private grower and used by no other distillery," says Rick Wasmund, the owner and master distiller at Copper Fox Distillery. Situated along the banks of the Thronton River in Sperryville, Virginia, Copper Fox Distillery was founded in 2000 after Wasmund returned to the United States following an internship at Bowmore Distillery. "Of course I'm proud of our innovations," adds Wasmund, "but I am keenly aware of the fact that I'm standing on the shoulders of a great many courageous, passionate and brilliant individuals and I try to be ever thankful for the trail they blazed."

About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.

Check out our impressive selection of American single malts, or find your new favorite in our rich whisk(e)y selection, and get familiarized with what the world has to offer.
