About Dictador 20 Year Old Colombian Rum

Dictador is a Colombian company with more than a century-long history. The weather there allows for the typically high sugarcane to flourish. That’s how the climate and the terrain enable Dictador to produce a slew of ultra-premium rums. Dictador combines Colombian tradition with European and Japanese practices to deliver the perfect Rum. It all started in the 18th century with Severo Arango y Ferro who was dubbed Dictador for his willingness and agency. At some point, he fell in love with Rum, considered a currency at that time. That’s the myth. But the 1913 establishment of Destilería Colombiana by Don Julio Arango y Parra is history.
Dictador 20-Year-Old Colombian Rum is produced from virgin sugarcane. It’s distilled in an alembic/steel continuous column. The Rum rests in used solera oak barrels and comes out medium-bodied. There are serious quality-control measures taken each step of the way to ensure that extraordinary experience.

About Dictador

In 1751, Severo Arango y Ferro arrived in Cartagena, a port city in northern Colombia. Ferro had been sent to Colombia from Spain, and was asked to establish and oversee commercial trading activities between Spain and its American colonies. Ferro proved himself to be an able and ruthless statesman and under his leadership, the city of Cartagena became a hub of economic activity and the most important port for the Spanish fleet in the Americas. Ferro's strength and power also earned him the nickname "Dictador."

Dictador was partial to a variety of rums that were being distilled in the Caribbean at the time, many of which passed through Cartagena on their way to Spain. In 1913, over 150 years after Ferro initially arrived in Colombia, one of his descendants established Destileria Colombiana. Today, the distillery honors the legacy of its founding ancestors with Dictador Rum.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
