About Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit

The Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit contains one bottle of Black Button Distillery Distillery Distilling Moonshine together with a 2-liter, charred American oak cask.

Black Button Distillery Distillery Distilling Moonshine is crafted from a mash of 80% non-GMO corn and 20% malted barley, which are sourced from a family farm in New York. "The farm has been growing corn, wheat and rye on over 1,600 acres for four generations," says Barrett. "They are an institution, and we're happy to be partnering with them,"Barrett adds, noting that after the grains have been spent at the distillery, he returns them to the same farm, which uses them as feed for their cattle. "It's a very green process and makes for some very happy cows."

After the grains arrive at the distillery, they are milled and mashed, before being fermented and then distilled through a 300-gallon artisan copper pot still. "Our extra-long lyne arm and unique whiskey helmet design contribute to the super smooth taste almost as much as our heritage style corn does."Following distillation, the whiskey is immediately bottled at 100 proof.

"We invite you to replicate the aging process we use in crafting our aged whiskies at home," says Barrett, "by aging this whiskey yourself in our charred, American oak casks."Each cask includes a small spigot that can be used to sample the whiskey as it ages. Once the whiskey reaches its perfect maturity, it can be consumed or bottled again.

The Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit makes the perfect Father's Day gift, particularly for the do-it-yourselfer father. Pick up a kit today!

About Black Button

In 2012, Jason Barrett became the head distiller and founder of Black Button Distilling – at only 24 years old. Coming from a family of the finest men's suit buttons makers, worn by "Presidents, Popes, Kings, and Businessmen the world over", Barret worked in his grandfather’s factory when he was younger, but soon realized he wanted to carve out his own path.

After graduating, Barrett returned to his hometown of Rochester, New York, to follow his passion – make whiskey and open a craft distillery, the first in Rochester since Prohibition times. Named Black Button because of a family inside joke – Barret is color blind and the family always joked that they’d need to produce only black buttons if we were to take over the family business – every small batch of Black Button spirits is made from local NY grains with over 90% of ingredients grown or produced in New York State. Everything from corn, wheat, rye, and barley to dairy cream and apple cider comes from family farms in New York State to support local and sustainable agriculture. They even grow their own juniper for Black Button gin at the Black Button Farm in South Bristol. Besides whiskey and gin, Black Button’s wide range includes vodka, moonshine, and liqueur.
