The Day of the Dead (or El Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday where families gather to remember the lives of loved ones who have passed away. The holiday has a positive tone — friends and family tell stories of the departed and celebrate the sanctity of life. In addition, cemeteries are often decorated with photos, bottles of tequila and calavera, which are skull-shaped candies. Calaveras are meant to remind the living that death is nothing but the passing on from one life to the next.
Inspired by the traditional calaveras used on the Day of the Dead, Kah Tequila pays homage to El Día de los Muertos. The tequila is made exclusively from organic, estate-grown, blue weber agave. Once the agave are harvested by expert jimadors in the Lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico, the hearts of the agave, or piñas, are baked in stainless steel autoclaves (a requirement in order to be certified kosher, which Kah Tequila is) before being shredded. After the piñas have been shredded, the remaining pulp is fermented using a proprietary strain of yeast before being distilled twice in a stainless steel pot still.
Kah Tequila Blanco is brought to proof immediately after distillation. The tequila has intensely sweet notes of agave and pineapple, which are followed by bold notes of pepper and cinnamon. The tequila earned the Gold Medal at the Spirits of Mexico Tasting Competition in 2010, and earned the Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.
Kah Tequila Reposado is matured for ten months in casks crafted from French Limousin oak. As a result, the tequila, which is bottled at 110 proof, has a full-body with notes of dried fruits, pineapple and agave that are complemented by subtle undertones of caramel and vanilla. The tequila earned the Silver Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013 and a score of 91 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. In addition, it earned a score of 92 points from Tequila.net.
Kah Tequila Añejo is matured for two years in American white oak casks. As a result, it has bold notes of cinnamon, agave, honey and vanilla, that are balanced by notes of cloves and warming spices. The tequila earned the Gold Medal and the title "Best in Category" at the Spirits of Mexico Tasting Competition in 2010. In addition, it earned a score of 92 points from Tequila.net.
Each bottle of Kah Tequila Blanco, Kah Tequila Reposado and Kah Tequila Añejo is handcrafted from artisanal ceramics, and is a hand-painted, individually-numbered work of art — no two bottles are exactly alike.
