Hennessy Maison (The House of Hennessy)
has become synonymous with cognac,

and for good reason: the Hennessy family has been shaping the cognac industry for more than 250 years. In 1765, Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer serving in Louis XV’s army, set out to create the world’s finest cognac. The prized liquid quickly became popular and soon a thriving export business was born, with shipments to

& throughout continental Europe.

Since then, the Hennessy family has used its vision to create the standard for cognac.

That’s because in 1859, the Prince of Wales, later King George IV of Great Britain, requested that Hennessy create a “very superior old pale cognac”, a designation now used across the entire industry.

FAMILIAR WITH V.S. (Very Special)?

That’s because in 1865 Maurice Hennessy, the great-grandson of Richard, created a classification system to designate the different qualities of the spirit.

And a few years later Maurice created X.O. (Extra Old),

a designation now used worldwide.

To this day, Hennessy only uses Ugni Blanc grapes born in the unique soil surrounding the River Charente in the Cognac region of France.

These light, fruity grapes are specially suited to Hennessy’s double copper pot distillation technique. After distillation, the liquid (called “eau-de-vie”) is placed in casks made exclusively from French oak.

The Master Blender is the guardian of a cognac’s specific taste

and possesses extensive expertise as they are the one responsible for selecting eaux-de-vie, observing their maturation and overseeing their blending. Master Blender’s Selection Nº 1 represents the knowledge and passion of 7th generation Master Blender, Yann Fillioux who hand selected 80-100 eaux-de-vie that are not found in any other Hennessy Cognac.

Given Hennessy’s masterful attention to detail,

they collaborated with Brooklyn-based artist, CJ Hendry to design a timeless aesthetic. Hendry is a well-known visual artist who is particularly renowned for her intricate hand-drawn black and white illustrations. available online to Caskers members through our limited pre-sale.
