Since its inception in 2000, Compass Box Whisky Company has been stewarded by John Glaser, one of the most progressive and innovative whisky blenders of his generation. "Like a winemaker blending grape varieties, we can create layers of complexity by blending whisky," says Glaser, who was named "Innovator of the Year" four times by Whisky Magazine and was named the "Pioneer of the Year" twice by Malt Advocate. While Glaser initially began his career in the industry as a marketing agent, he quickly realized that by blending quality whiskies, he was able to create a product that was greater than the sum of its rare parts.

Compass Box The Lost Blend takes its name from the 1907 O. Henry story about life in a New York bar in the early 1900s. "This sharp and witty portrait centers around two business partners who try to recreate a blend of different spirits with close to supernatural properties," says Glaser.

Compass Box The Lost Blend is made by marrying together two Highland single malt whiskies that were matured in American oak casks that were previously used to mature bourbon. The fruity Highland malts, sourced from the Clynelish and Allt-A-Bhainne distilleries, were combined with a peaty single malt whisky from the Caol Ila Distillery, situated on the island of Islay. The resulting whisky is the most similar whisky Compass Box has created to its long-lamented first every whisky, Eleuthera, which has been a "lost blend" since production ceased in 2004. "Having been blending Scotch whiskies as an amateur and a professional for the better part of 20 years, I can say with confidence that I believe there exist "magic" combinations of whiskies. For me, they are like the whisky blending equivalent of spiritual truths. And what better name to lend to our lost blend, but "The Lost Blend!"

Only 12,018 bottles of Compass Box The Lost Blend have ever been produced.
