About Batiste Rhum Reserve

In 2008, Batiste Rhum was founded by Tristan Mermin with Jon Lawson as COO – two spirit veterans with decades of industry know-how. Unlike most rums that are distilled from fermented molasses, all Batiste Rhum are rhum agricole, which means they're made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice. Fermentation of sugar cane juice is trickier as opposed to molasses, requiring multiple analyses per hour to ensure proper control.

This is the only American rum using single-origin 100% fresh sugarcane juice, grown and distilled in the French Caribbean on the island of Marie-Galante and then aged and finished in Napa, California. The production process is not just eco-positive and carbon neutral, but it's actually carbon negative as growing cane sequesters CO2 gas from the atmosphere into the earth. Around 1kg of CO2 is absorbed per 1kg of sugar cane grown, which means that Batiste Rhum clean and sustainable production offsets around 3 kg of CO2 per bottle. And while most rums require many distillations, single distillation through a steam-heated, stainless steel column still with a copper top is used for Batiste Rhum, preserving more natural flavor.

Like all their rhums, Batiste Rhum Ecoiste Reserve is made from 100% fresh sugar cane juice with no additives added. After distillation on the tropical island of Marie-Galante, this natural, craft rhum is aged for at least 18 months in level 4 char ex-rye whiskey barrels in Napa, California. Bottled at 80 proof, it comes in plastic-free, recyclable packaging and it's non-GMO, gluten free and vegan. Big, rich and assertive, this special rhum features hints of turbinado sugar, hot toffee, caramel and even rye whiskey. A single origin, single distillation and unblended spirit, it's exceptionally crisp, clean and perfect for any cocktail.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
